★ PLEASE JOIN US TO PROTEST THIS WEDNESDAY, July 13TH FROM 4:00PM – 7:00PM IN SAN JOSE TO STOP THE PESTICIDE FOGGING SCHEDULED FOR LATER THAT NIGHT.★
Fogging Alert!
Santa Clara County Vector Control just announced their next scheduled spraying this Wednesday, July 13th starting at 11:00PM. A map of the area can be seen here.
We will be protesting that day on Wednesday, July 13th from 4:00PM – 7:00PM by Starbucks Coffee at 1432 West San Carlos St. in San Jose. The cross street is Meridian Ave.
You, your loved ones, our pets, our wildlife and our locally grown food supplies are in grave danger! “Fogging” (the spraying of toxic pesticides in neighborhoods), causes serious harmful health effects, environmental damage and can even kill!
We need your help to make this protest a success. I am counting on YOU to please forward to your mailing lists, Nextdoor, environmental groups, personally call people, and text the protest information.
Our goal is to have over 30 people or more holding signs and passing out flyers to people. We will supply the signs and fliers. Feel free to make your own and bring them. Please bring a friend or 2 and/or even your pets!
All ages are welcome. Feel free to wear a bee keeper outfit, dress up as a bee or even wear a mask! The more people that show up the more of an impact we will make!
Here is their press release: “The Santa Clara County Vector Control District (SCCvcd) has confirmed that adult mosquitoes collected from the 95126 and 95128 ZIP code areas of the city of San José have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The detection of mosquitoes infected with WNV has prompted the scheduling of a mosquito fogging treatment in the surrounding areas in an effort to prevent human cases of WNV. Weather permitting, the ground fogging operations are scheduled for 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, and will conclude a few hours later.”
A map of the area to be fogged can be seen here.

In spite of specific instructions from the County Board of Supervisors to find a non-toxic method of controlling West Nile Virus, Vector Control will be spraying San Jose this week.
As stated on the Washington DC official Government website, they don’t spray for mosquitoes (adulticide) because scientific studies show that aerial spraying is not effective and non target and beneficial species such as bees, spiders and the preying mantis are killed as well. Additionally, pesticides residues linger in the environment, causing asthma, cancer and certain birth defects.

People fogged with this poison have watery eyes, blurry vision, a hoarse voice, sore throat, rhinitis, lethargy, long term rash, liver and kidney impacts and other health damages. In major studies the pesticide is linked to autism in offspring when pregnant women are exposed. It is especially dangerous for cats.
The pesticide Vector Control is using is Zenivex E4. According to the MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET says:
“HAZARDOUS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS, HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED, CAUSES MODERATE EYE IRRITATION. AVOID CONTACT WITH EYE, SKIN OR CLOTHING”… “toxic to bees, aquatic organisms and invertebrates.”
No one can say they even know what it is as 96% of Zenivex E4 is a “trade secret.” Thus any claims of safety or benign effects are lies.
A very small amount is toxic and hazardous! View the MSDS

In July 2015 Healthy Alternatives to Pesticides collected dead bees after the pesticide spraying. To view dead bee report please go to:

After some experience with it, New York found Zenivex E4 could not be shown safe. It no longer is allowed to be used used in New York. The use of it here has killed whole bee hives and the key predators of mosquitoes: frogs, dragonflies, damsel flies, birds, likely bats, and the fish in Vasona reservoir leaving just the mosquitoes and black flies to multiply without predators. It does not kill mosquito larva so mosquitoes rebound within hours, but with no predators. People here have observed it killing birds almost instantly. The fogging is 100% counterproductive by killing the key first line of mosquito defense.
It is very important to close your windows and other sources of outside air during the fogging and for the next day. If you are pregnant, and can possibly do so, leave the area for 2 to 3 days. Take children out of the area and anyone on dialysis.
This poison was marketed with false claims that it had a photolysis half life of 4.1 days in soil (as the state water permit reports), but New York found the half life over 140 – 340 days. Our own Vector Control District has decided to use in the future, what they claim is a safer pesticide, but will dispose of the Zenivex E4 they have by emptying it on our neighborhood beginning Wednesday night. (The new pesticide claims could also be false.)
WHO IS DOING THIS TO US? Vector Control, but THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COULD STOP THIS MASS POISONING IN AN INSTANT, BUT HAVE NOT. If we could fill the Board Chambers even once we could probably stop it. That is how important your presence and our numbers are.
